This can often be thematic, with a desire to invest in companies who are leading the charge towards a fossil fuel free future, IT security, better healthcare and many others.
This style of investing is much more focussed, as it might exclude as much as three quarters of companies globally. It can therefore be more volatile on both the gains and losses. It is best if this is very long-term capital that is going to be invested long enough to ride this volatility out.
This type of investor is one who gets as much pleasure from achieving something positive in the world as they do from a great return. It is therefore important that we as advisers can produce a measurement of the social impact as well as the financial progress of these portfolios.
